Abstract
This study examines effectiveness of the Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program for preschoolers and their mothers. According to the ECBI (Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory) scores, 16 mother-child (aged 3 to 6 years) dyads were divided into the first experimental group (5 children), the second experimental group (6 children) and the controlled group (5 children). The therapy session was provided once a week for about one hour each for six weeks. One way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed to test the homogeneity between the experimental and the controlled groups. Paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon test were performed to evaluate the difference between pre- and post-treatment. All statistical data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. After completing six weeks of the treatment, positive mother-child interactions were
increased and negative mother-child interactions were decreased. The PCIT program improved the quality of mother-child interactions effectively and also had positive effects in decreasing children¡¯s behavioral problem and mother¡¯s parenting stress and depression.
